This week its UK Coffee Week so whether your favourite tipple is a flat white, espresso or latte let’s see if Britain’s favourite café past time is really good for you after all! In a new study from Harvard University it has been reported that drinking three cups of coffee a day – caff or decaff – could help you live longer. From type 2 diabetes to Parkinson’s, this research is the latest headline that suggests the coffee bean does deliver some health benefits. But as with most things in life it is always a question of moderation! The Daily Telegraph wrote earlier this week about the latest coffee research to try to sort the facts and myths when it comes to health claims, and no easy task. “According to Harvard School of Public Health, coffee contains hundreds of different compounds: some are good for human health; others aren’t. This complexity accounts for the fact that scientific opinion about coffee has ‘flip-flopped’ in the past. The good news is that your coffee addiction probably is not bad for you (apart from the impact on your wallet) – but it falls a long way short of being a health drink.” Along with the well-known health benefits that drinking water can bring, research results compiled in both the UK and Europe showed that coffee (and tea) drinkers who consumed 3 to 4 cups daily had a 20% lower risk of developing the disease. One study conducted at the Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee (ISIC) suggested that the caffeine in coffee stimulates the drinker's metabolism and increases energy level, which may help keep glucose in balance, helping to reduce the chances of developing diabetes among those who drink at least 4 cups of coffee each day. KettleTaps installed at home and at work make coffee making fast and easy. Instant hot taps produce steaming hot water making fast work at break time. Water quality is so important when making a decent cuppa; the taps filter out chlorine and other substances that cause water to have an unpleasant odour or taste. Our love of coffee just keeps on growing! According to the Daily Mail following research on behalf of UK Coffee Week, a staggering three coffee shops open each day in the UK! The coffee shop industry pours a staggering £8.9 billion into the UK economy and it is forecast that the number of coffee shops will overtake pubs by 2030. 1,222 coffee shops opened in the last year alone, and now there are now 23,000 venues to enjoy a cup! Finally it’s not a myth: coffee really does affect the quality of your sleep. To enjoy a peaceful night, avoid drinking coffee for at least six hours before lights out!
